NORTH UK PIPELINE CONSTRUCTION CAUSES CONCERNS FOR BIKERS

Information received from the National Grid :-

"The National Grid is constructing a major gas pipeline across the North of
England that crosses many roads popular with thousands of motorcyclists. The
construction affects an area from Pannal near Harrogate in North Yorkshire
right across to Nether Kellet near Carnforth in Lancashire, a region that
includes Devil's Bridge and is popular with thousands of bikers.

We're installing four sections of high pressure pipeline across Yorkshire
and Lancashire to connect existing pipelines that already run north to south
down the east and west coasts. The pipeline crosses many major and minor
country roads throughout the region.

The work presents a number of potential dangers for motorcyclists, mainly at
60 locations along the pipeline route where heavy plant vehicles need to
cross roads. In addition to this, there's an increased number of lorries and
other slow-moving pipeline vehicles in the area, often on rural roads with
blind corners and other dangerous riding conditions for motorcyclists such
as wet mud on the road."
